2. Spoof
· Purpose : to retell an event with humorous twist.

3. Recount
· Purpose : to tell the readers what happened in the past through a
sequence of events.
· Generic Structure : Orientation – Events – Re-orientation
4. Report
· Purpose : to describe the way things.
· Generic Structure : General classification – identification
5. Procedure
· Purpose : to help us do a task or make something.
They can be a set of instruction or direction.

6. Descriptive
· Purpose : to describe a particular person, things or place.
· Generic Structure : Identification – Description
7. Analytical Exposition
· Purpose : to persuade by presenting arguments or to analyze or explain.
· Generic Structure : A thesis – Arguments – Reiteration
8. Hortatory Exposition
· Purpose : to persuade the reader or to the listener that something should or should not be the case.
· Generic Structure : A thesis – Arguments – Suggestion
9. News Item
· Purpose : to inform the readers, listeners or viewers about events of the day which are considered news everything or important.
· Generic Structure : Newsworthy events – Background events – Sources
10. Explanation
· Purpose : to explain the process involved in the formation or working of natural or socio cultural phenomena. (How and why things happen)
· Generic Structure : A general statement – a sequence – explanation closing
11. Review
· Purpose : to critique or to analyze an art work or event for a public audience.
· Generic Structure : Orientation – interpretative recount – Evaluation – Summation
12. Discussion
· Purpose : to present (at least) many different aspects of an issue
· Generic Structure : Issue – Arguments – Conclusion
